Choose Your Powertrain, Choose Your Capability

The new Suburban offers its owners three powertrain choices on the 2022 model—a standard 5.3L V8 engine, a more powerful 6.2L V8 engine, and a diesel version—the 3.0L Duramax Turbo Diesel. All three engines give drivers surprisingly good gas mileage for a full-size SUV.

Chevy pairs each engine with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and gives drivers their choice of 2WD or 4WD. Every trim level on the new Suburban—LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country—also has the option of adding the Max Trailering Package for the ultimate in towing power and ease.

Towing Capacities for the 2022 Suburban Lineup

Towing capacity for each engine can be enhanced depending on whether it’s equipped with 2WD, 4WD, or the Max Trailering Package. Capacities are as follows:

Chevy Suburban Max Trailering Package Features

The Max Trailering Package not only boosts the Suburban’s towing capacity, but adds a host of features that make towing easier and safer. Driver assistance features include Hitch Guidance w/ Hitch View—that adds Dynamic Guidelines on the rearview camera to help you line up the hitch and trailer.

You also get Trailer Brake Controller—that activates your trailer brakes when you apply your vehicle’s brakes. The Advanced Trailering System lets you create a number of profiles for your different trailers and keep track of their metrics.

The Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert (exclusive to Premier and High Country) uses radar sensors that detect vehicles in the side blind zone of your Suburban. It then alerts you with visual cues in the corresponding exterior side mirrors.

Also included in the package is enhanced radiator cooling on all trims and a 2-speed transfer case (exclusive to LT models with 4WD).
